As summer approaches, I’m finding myself craving a New England summer cottage covered in fragrant climbing roses that's gently tucked in by established hydrangeas. There’s something about a cottage kitchen that’s more carefree and rustic than your everyday kitchen. Nothing is too precious or curated, but used and loved for years and by many.
Some of the elements I’m drawn to in New England cottage kitchens are shaker inset cabinetry, open shelves that are both beautiful and utilitarian, lot’s of wood elements, old pine floors, a sink skirt, and a random collection of kitchen wares.
So, to feed my craving, I’ve put together a roundup of my favorite snippets of cottage style kitchens that totally evoke the feeling of a carefree summer for me. How about you?
Ok so this one checks all my boxes. Because of the super low ceilings, the choice of open storage totally works. The plate rack adds interest as well as utility. And how awesome is that wood ceiling!
Light, bright, and sun-filled. This cottage kitchen does not disappoint with its creamy tones and well loved inset shaker cabinets. Also, check out those old floors! In the case of a coastal New England cottage, I’m totally all in for painting floors, especially if they’re in a bit of a rough shape.
I love this one. Galley style kitchens are a popular layout among cottages. They're both functional and space saving. I love the eclectic look of this one in particular. The repetition of the pendants are a great, more curated general lighting option over standard recessed lights.
It’s the sink skirt for me! This is a great entertaining kitchen. Another eclectic look with a vintage furniture island and a great mix of materials and textures. I love the vintage looking nautical pendants that are the jewelry of the space.
Now all I need is a charming Nantucket cottage and I'll be set! Or, at least just design one. I hope this has helped feed your summer cravings as well!
